Flexible Film Perforation Technologies

Perftech offers three primary perforation technologies for flexible films, webs and other roll-fed materials:

Laser perforation Needle perforation (hot and cold) Thermal perforation

Laser, needle and thermal perforation each offer distinct advantages in hole size, pattern, density, speed and material compatibility. Perftech helps determine the right perforation technology for your film, product and performance requirements.

Laser perforation uses precisely controlled beams of focused light to create holes or scores in moving web materials. Because the process is non-contact and requires no physical tooling, perforation patterns can be changed quickly and precisely. Laser technology is ideal for applications requiring controlled hole sizes, custom patterns, scoring or highly repeatable micro-perforation.

Needle perforation is ideal for applications requiring uniform, repeatable hole patterns across a moving web. Perftech offers both hot and cold needle perforation, with tooling available for patterns ranging from sparse perforation to high-density configurations. Perforation can be applied across the full web width or in defined strips or zones to meet specific package and product requirements. Needle perforation is an economical choice for many wide-web and high-volume applications.

Thermal perforation is a non-contact process capable of producing extremely high-density, uniform perforation patterns. With configurations reaching up to 2,000 holes per square inch, thermal perforation is well suited for demanding food, medical, filtration and other applications requiring consistent airflow or permeability.

Perftech’s multiple perforating technologies allow us to perforate almost anything that can be supplied in roll form, including:

  • PET film
  • Co-extrusions and laminations
  • LDPE film
  • Papers
  • HDPE film
  • Metalized films
  • Polypropylene
  • Non-wovens
  • Nylon film
